Event Recaps

 |
The QLF had its Second Annual Holiday Boutique on December 6th, 2011 at 411 Hartz Ave., Danville. Terrific merchandise was available to fulfill those holiday wish lists. A sample of our goodies included: handbags and accessories, bed jackets, lotions, blankets, stationary, hand-crafted jewelry, tabletop gifts and decor, kids clothing, Fuzzy Duds, delicious homemade treats, kitchen gadgets, nut and chocolate confections, and plenty of stocker stuffers! As always, a percentage of all sales went toward pediatric cancer care and research. The highlight of the event however was the effort of Quincy's girlfriends who baked numerous bags of homemade cookies and sold them making over $800 from the sales! |

Henry Wright's Heart held the 3rd Annual Benefit for the Quincy Lee Foundation at the Parker House in Sea Girt, New Jersey, on September 19, 2011. It proved to be a very successful event once again! Most restaurants returned from last year, offering their fabulous food specialties in stations set up around the porch - Bar Anticipation, Boathouse, Brandl, The Cabin, The Column's, Edgar's Pub, Freedman's, Green Planet Coffee, Langosta Lounge, Mossuto's Market, Parker House Raw Bar, Smith's, and Viva's. Four Winds and McGillicuddy's Restaurants were new to the the mix this year. The local beer and wine distributors - Ritchie and Page, Crown Beer, Pt. Pleasant, Shore and R & R Liquors made sure guests enjoyed themselves with complimentary libations, and put everyone in the mood for bidding on terrific auction items! Once again a big hit in the silent auction was the vacation home in Maine and a ghost tour at Pennhurst, PA! We send a sincere thank you to all our friends and families who helped make this a wonderful event and to all our supporters who generously donated and attended the event. |

On June 30th, the QLF hosted a "Red, White and Blue Luncheon" for all the families of pediatric patients.
The weather was beautiful and we were able to have it outside in the 6Long Courtyard behind the playroom at UCSF. As we know from our
extensive hospital experience with Quincy, a breath of fresh air and a comforting break from treatment, is one of the best things you can offer an inpatient family.
Specialty sandwiches, chips and drinks, plus homemade cookies and cupcakes baked by Quincy's girlfriends, Christina and Natalie Deveraux,
Julia Karczewski, Megan McSweeney, and Lauren Devine were enjoyed by everyone! All families also received gift bags packed with fun and functional items for their
hospital stays and beyond, thanks to the fund -raising pie making efforts of Alex Ackerman. |

|
 |
"Eat pie - fight cancer," was Alex Ackerman's 8th grade community - service project for the QLF.
Alex, a student at Athenian School in Danville, CA, has a knack for making apple pies from scratch (crust included!).
He decided to sell pies to raise money for the 4th of July Luncheon that the Quincy Lee Foundation was hosting for
all the families of pediatric patients at UCSF. Due to an overwhelming positive response to his request,
he needed to recruit several buddies and family members for a day of pie making. That evening, 15 warm apple pies were delivered to s
ome very happy customers. Alex also contacted the SF Giants Baseball team to see if they could contribute to the UCSF event.
The SF Giants organization generously donated banners, bracelets and baseballs that put smiles on many faces at the hospital!
Thank you Alex for all your efforts! |

On Christmas Eve, Esin deCarion started
work at 5:00am at her awarding winning restaurant, Esin,
where she and her husband Curtis are the chefs and owners.
She had to get an early start to fulfill all the dessert
orders that she sold at the QLF Holiday Boutique and
very generously donated to the foundation. Julie Peck
and Lisa Lee from the QLF volunteered to help with the
preparation and had a great time working side by side
with the master chef and baker! Generosity seems to
run in the deCarion family. Later that day, Esin's
sons, Alper and Memet raised money for the Quincy Lee
Foundation by selling bookmarks and ornaments outside
of their parent's restaurant. Since both Esin and
Curtis were working on Christmas Eve, the boys thought
it would be a good night to set up a table outside the
restaurant and raise awareness about pediatric cancer.
Memet even serenaded guests playing his trombone. Thank
you deCarion Family!

On December 7, 2010, the Quincy Lee Foundation
Holiday Boutique was held at the Lee residence in Alamo
from 11-2pm and 5-8pm. Guests were able to "do
good and feel good" by shopping for all their holiday
needs. Over 15 vendors participated and showcased their
terrific merchandise both inside and outside the house.
Tables were filled with handmade upcycled and designer
inspired handbags and accessories, designer jeans, hand-crafted
jewelry, tabletop gifts and décor, delicious
homemade treats and pasta sauces, desserts by an award
winning chef, kitchen gadgets, nut and chocolate confections,
and plenty of toys and stocking stuffers. In addition
several raffles were held on items donated from various
vendors. It was a great event for the foundation and
would not have been a success without the help of all
the friends of the QLF!

For the past 14 years over Labor Day Weekend,
neighbors, family and friends of Maureen and Bob Swigon
have come together for an annual bike tour at the Jersey
Shore to raise money for charity. This year the Quincy
Lee Foundation was the lucky recipient of such largess.
The Bike Tour revolves around stops at local establishments
for libations and laughter. Their slogan has been fondly
been "Another Vicious Cycle….Supporting Charity
Beer after Beer." Over hundred people were on the
tour this year, including multi-generational families
whose children turned 21 and were able to participate.
Tee-shirts were designed by Andy Prendimano for the
event. Thank you Bikers!

Quincy's godmother, Maureen DePolo,
and her husband Randy contacted the Quincy Lee Foundation
with a very unusual request. Randy is the managing partner
of the Headless Horsemen Racing Stable and quite the
horse hobbyist. He and his team had a mare that gave
birth to a beautiful bay filly and decided to name her
after Quincy….and that's not all! They also
wanted to help make Quincy's wish come true and
donate a share to be auctioned off to the highest bidder,
with the funds going to the Quincy Lee Foundation. We
were thrilled by this very kind and generous offer and
thus, Quincy Lee the Racehorse was born!
Quincy Lee the Racehorse has great lineage. Her father,
Artie Schiller, won the Breeder's Cup Turf Mile
and earned over $2,000,000 in prize money during his
racing career. She spent her winter in Ocala, Florida
in training with other 2 year olds. Her trainer said
she "had two more gears than any other babies at
the farm!" It looks like she will follow in her
father's hoof steps. Quincy Lee is scheduled to
come back up to New Jersey where the Headless Horsemen
Racing Stable is located and to the Monmouth Park Racetrack
where she will run this summer. Stay tuned for updates
on Quincy Lee the Racehorse!

On September 14, 2009, Henry Wright's
Heart 1st Annual Benefit paid tribute to Henry Wright,
the much loved owner of the Parker House in Sea Girt,
New Jersey, who passed away unexpectedly last year.
Because of Henry's and his business partner, Frank
Matthews' generous nature, the founders and friends
of Henry Wright's Heart, decided to designate the
Quincy Lee Foundation as the benefactor of the evenings
proceeds. Highlights of the night were the delicious
food prepared by Jersey Shore restaurants, three bands,
and terrific silent auction items, including lifetime
passes to "the Stone Pony" and a share in
the ownership of Quincy Lee the Racehorse! It was a
terrific event for pediatric cancer research. A big
thank you to Frank Matthews, owner of the Parker House,
Tim and Brendan Smith, founders of the Henry Wright's
Heart Foundation and all our wonderful family and friends
at the Jersey Shore who helped in making this event
such a success!

Estelle Strykers-Santiago is a long distance
runner in New York City who was inspired by Quincy to
run a marathon and raise money for the Quincy Lee Foundation.
On November 23, she entered the Philadelphia Marathon
and collected pledges from family, friends and co-workers.
Estelle told us that when she felt fatigued while running
she just thought about Quincy and all that she went
through with her cancer treatments, and it motivated
her to keep going and even pick up her pace! It was
very windy on the day of the Marathon, but Estelle finished
with a great time, and exceeded her goal of raising
over $100 for every mile she ran! Way to go Estelle! |

Abbey Ryan, a talented artist skilled
in fine art, illustration and design, has been painting
a small oil painting every day for the past year. She
donated a painting from her collection from August 4,
2008, entitled "Chocolate Kiss with Lemon Reflection"
for an online auction sale to benefit the Quincy Lee
Foundation. Abbey painted our treasured family portrait.

In December, Julie Peck, her son Michael,
and Trevor Holmgren sold holiday treats, bookmarks and
ornaments outside of Yellow Wood Café in Alamo
to raise money for the Foundation. Thank you again Peck
Family! |

|
 |
On November 29, another "Shopping
Party Fundraiser" was held with great success selling
"Fuzzy Duds", Original Prints by John Broski,
Lynn Edwards Jewelry, Pampered Chef Supplies, and Custom
Purses by Denise Corral. Julie Peck graciously hosted
the event at her beautiful home in Alamo. A big thank
you to all who participated and attended! |

|
 |
On March 27, Julie Peck opened her beautiful
home with Julie Tuckness and co-hosted a night of shopping
filled with friends, flip- flops, handmade jewelry,
fashion accessories, shrugs and shawls (made by Quincy's
grandmother!), and plenty of Easter candy, with sales
benefiting the Quincy Lee Foundation. It was a great
night for all involved and over $2000 was raised for
the Foundation. |

Andrea Peterson held a garage sale to
clean out her samples from her toy company, Sunshine
Sales. With the help of her three sons, Jack, Mitchell
and Joe, the sale was very successful. After making
a generous monetary contribution to the Foundation,
she also donated her leftover toys to the children at
UCSF! |

Every year on the second Sunday in December
there is a "Worldwide Candle Lighting Ceremony"
to honor all children who have died. As candles are
lit at 7p.m. in each time zone around the world, hundreds
of thousands of people create a wave of light, commemorating
and honoring children in a way that transcends cultural,
ethnic, religious, and political boundaries. |

"When life gives you lemons, make
lemonade" The Neach Family of Alamo remembered
the words Quincy lived by. Over the summer, Shannon
Neach and her four children, J.T., Molly, Holden, and
Tatum set up a lemonade stand on the Iron Horse Trail
in Alamo. In just one afternoon they were able to make
a very generous donation to the Quincy Lee Foundation.
J.T. and Quincy had attended Kindergarten together and
were friends. |

Turning 13 is a very big birthday. Gavin
Foltz displayed a kindness beyond his years when he
celebrated his birthday and along with his family, hosted
a party with 70 of his closest friends! When asked as
to what he would like for his birthday, he said that
in lieu of gifts, he would like donations to be made
to the Quincy Lee Foundation. Needless to say, we are
very touched by the generosity of Gavin and his family. |

The Quincy Lee Foundation "elves"
were very busy over Thanksgiving break making holiday
ornaments to sell on the website and at several local
holiday boutiques, including one at Rancho Romero School,
December 8 -9. "Q's" made out of thin
pieces of wood were hand painted in Quincy's favorite
shade of purple and stamped with colorful butterflies.
If you lived in Alamo, our "elves" probably
came to your house and delivered your very own "Q"
ornament! |

|
 |
During the week of November14-18, 2005,
Quincy's elementary school, Rancho Romero held its Annual
Scholastic Book Fair. With the help of Quincy's
many friends, bookmarks with pictures of her and her
artwork sold very well! A display was set up near the
check out and we were happy to report that many bookmarks
were sold. Thank you Rancho Romero families! | |
